Hi everyone,

I want everyone to know that the Dix application Hearing

to alter our Master Plan and remove the protections

that prevent building on the 222-acre Golf Course

Amenity, has been officially DEFEATED

Congratulations to all who helped in this Great Victory.

We have all put a great deal of time and effort into saving Pine Ridge from this destructive proposal.

We now must turn our effort to making sure we never go through this again.

The Save The Golf Course Committee will continue to work for a resolution that makes this Golf Course playable again.

This process could take some time so please trust us and be patient. We, like you, truly want what is best for our Community.

The property can not be built on at this point. It is zoned a Golf Course and must remain a Golf Course unless another hearing changes that.

That is why we must continue to come together as never before as a Community United.

Our STGCP Group of residence has proven what we can do if we are united. Let's all work to build this coalition bigger and stronger, not just here in Pine Ridge but in the matters concerning our entire County.

We must all participate if we want to successfully save our community, our property values and our way of life.

We can make a difference. We can shape our own future here in Citrus County. Let's grow our numbers and make a commitment to get involved with like minded people and have fun and create incredible lasting relationships in the process. Let's build a Community and a County that we can all be proud to call home. We can do this together.

Please continue to talk to friends and neighbors, we will be scheduling additional meetings to keep everyone involved and informed. In the meanwhile let's all work to build this coalition inside and outside of Pine Ridge. This way can make a difference in the policy makers we elect. That's how we control what happens here in PRE and in Citrus County.

WE  GOT  THIS!

Pine Ridge: A short time to heal

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE BOCC AND MR JAMES DICKS

Peter Cuccaro

To say the last few years have been a challenge for the residents and property owners of Pine Ridge is an understatement. There have been issues upon issues and matters upon matters.

The two most visible have been the Suncoast Interchange being dropped 1,500 feet from the Pine Ridge entrance and the purchase of the golf course by the last two individuals. The BOCC exercised their full authority on the latter. I feel comfortable advising, on behalf of the many residents who exercised their civic duty with their presence, a mature and heartfelt thank you.

You read voluminous information forwarded by residents in the form of letters, emails, and phone calls, this along with the information supplied from the Chronicle, TV and social media in the lead up to the hearing. You listened to the legal back and forth from both Mr. Clark Stillwell and Mr. Michael Weiner on Jan. 9 and sorted through detailed legal information. That it was resident testimony, three minutes at a time, making the tilting difference was most appreciated. They were hard at it for months. Absent an overwhelming reason to go in another direction this is what integrity based elected leaders do.

It should now be more than apparent charging the County Administrator to take a deeper look at the loose process in Land Growth Management is timely. The playing field needs to be level for both developers and communities. It wasn’t in this instance and literally took your 11th hour intervention. Community acrimony during the last few years is spilling over with significant frustration in the form of accusations toward elected officials. Absent a modification this will continue. This is never a good thing and erodes confidence in all directions. You can fix it.

In chairing the POA Roads Committee a few years back a major concern was the number of commercial trucks traveling through Pine Ridge using it as a shortcut. We were concerned then and remain concerned. We were working through it when I stepped aside. But just before, we were at a 5:01 hearing pushing back against a potential truck-stop at the intersection of Modelwood and C.R. 491. It was cantankerous. It was at the end of this meeting a lasting relationship formed between the owner of Diamond Self Storage and the POA. A once ardent foe based on miscommunication and misunderstanding ultimately became the recipient of the first ever Pine Ridge POA Good Neighbor Award. He has since served as an ad hoc strategic advisor on matters of concern. Such is the established trust.

We reach out to Mr. James Dicks publicly. We heard you at the hearing. It sounded like some of your experience was similar to many residents. It’s time to get our collective frustration behind us and finally establish a joint stewardship of this Nature Coast jewel. Let’s do together what we couldn’t do apart. To that end a partnership between Pine Ridge residents and the owner of “our” golf course is appropriate and in the best interest of all Citrus. The BOCC cited this “… best interest …” as their concern. We are anxious to hear and share.

And yes, there is much to discuss between residents and the POA. It’s happening like at no time before. We will always be frugal based on the circumstance and have pledged to look out for those seniors whose current financials were established long ago. It will be worked through. But, this was the wakeup call everyone needed. Thank you for that. My email is petecuccaro@gmail.com and look forward to meeting with you on behalf of the Save The Golf Course Property Committee.

Pete Cuccaro is a Pine Ridge resident.
